Recipe Reviews 6/17/08

Hey Everyone

Hope you had a wonderful weekend. Can you believe the 1st day of summer is right around the corner? I just looked at the calendar and I officially have 39 days till vacation, whoo hooo! One of the goals I set when I joined WW was to climb a mountain in Maine with Dad that I did when I was 10 years old. I cannot wait to get there and reach that goal, I can just smell the Maine mountain air just thinking about it.

So below are my recipes reviews from things I tried out last week. As you can tell, I was busy in the kitchen. Let me know if you'd tried any out too.

Best Brownie - YES, FINALLY!!! After weeks and weeks about all the rav reviews on this recipe, I finally made them. Knocked my socks off! I used the chocolate syrup instead of the double chocolate- it was the only one I could find. I checked out the points and they are still the same for both kinds. I was shocked how big the brownie pcs was for 2 points. I put some in the fridge for the week, put some in the freezer for later, and brought the rest into work for my co-workers on the program- knocked their socks off too! That week, I would eat one brownie with 1 little dollop of FF cool whip, best way to end the day. I can't wait to make more and keep them wrapped up in the freezer in 1-2 servings to have on hand. I took pictures of the blender w/ the beans so you could see what they should look like. The batter in the bowl and then the final product. Can't believe I waited this long to make them, what was I thinking??

French country chicken skillet - I have been searching high and low on ways to spice up chicken, since I make it all the time. This was a A+ winner! I really enjoyed it. Hubby couldn't stop raving about it and by the way it looked, I didn't think he would enjoy it. I didn't have tarragon but I made the recipe anyw ays. I will buy it next time for sure (I looked up online for other uses for it in recipes, I found a ton). This even warmed up really well the next day. Sometimes food w. / sauces taste weird re-heated but I actually liked it better the next day

Cheesy eggs & potatoes - I have never had potatoes o' brian before but I really wanted to try this recipe out for 3 points. If I was a huge fan of onions and peppers in the morning, this would have been the best recipe. I ate it all and was really filled but the veggie taste in the morning didn't sit well with my taste buds. Hubby wasn't around but next Saturday, I am going to make this for him for sure, I know he'd enjoy it (sorry, didn't take a picture, it was too early to go looking for the camera)

Grilled Sweet and Sour Chicken - Now on my Top 10 favorite WW recipes. I was really in the mood to grill and so happy I came across this recipe. I did have a hard time finding sweet and sour sauce- ended up finding it at Acme and it was on sale, whoo hoooo. I was dancing in my seat when I tasted this! I miss sweet and sour chicken from the Chinese pla ces so much. And I realized the part I missed was the sauce and not the greasy fried chicken that comes with it. I paired it w/ green beans and a baked potato with black beans and sour cream. It was such a low point meal but I could hardly move from my s eat after eating it. We are making this again this week for sure! S&S sauce stores in the fridge really well.

Strawberry Jell-o. I made this in the morning so it could be nice and chilled for dessert time. It was ok, not the best dessert but for 1 point, not too bad either. I had to put some FF cool whip on it just to give it a little more flavor. I think most people would enjoy this recipe, it's sweet. I am weird when it comes to chewy things and I thought the strawberries were a little weird, but that is just me. And I am a fan of chocolate anything for dessert.

HG Butternut squash fries- Though the prep work to make these took some time, they were really worth it. The picture I attached are the fries before I baked them. I do wish they would have been crispier but I pulled them out as soon as they got a little burnt. With ketup and salt, they really tasted the real thing- it was almost weird when you thought of what you were actually eating. I am not sure if I will make them again but I do want to use her other recipes that call for butternut squash. I'll keep you posted.

All the recipes were included in previous documents. If you would like a copy of any of the recipes I have a review for, I can e-mail you just the recipe.

Check out my other blog for pictures of the recipes above. They were too large to attach to the e-mail.
